Before I start let me declare where I stand- And I am homophobic. Still, I can’t stop admiring our maverick Minister for Health. His fight against tobacco was the first affirmative action that inspired my respect. Of course he drew ridicule from the public at large with his request and at times advise to smokers who were famous personalities to become role models. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/buddha-blows-ramadoss-request-away-with-smoke/362873/http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Im-again-requesting-Buddha-to-quit-smoking-Ramadoss/362099/ His fight against alcohol is also well known. http://www.nerve.in/news:253500150151 What makes me give him a standing salute/ovation is his fight to legalize homosexuality. That is a taboo that could break any politician. Very few will support this action and that is the pity. No law can ban homosexuality. I can understand the fear and anger that seizes people on this issue. It deals with an act that is fundamental to life. For heterosexuals having sex or making love is associated with the act of pro- creation, an act ordained by nature /God. That is not the case with homosexuals were the act is seen as a purely physical act of pleasure. There is no divine sanction . But science has shown that the body and the mind of a person could be of different sexual orientation. No law can change that and continuing with antiquated laws that has potential health hazard for the whole population is very foolish. Therefore I wish Anbumani Ramadoss success in all the steps he is taking to energize the Health Ministry which has not done anything path breaking since the polio drop scheme. The govt says Gay sex immoral, Centre tells Delhi HC http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20080066818"ch=633584907118437500 Well if you agree that God created everyone then how can gays be immoral. If they exist it has to be with HIS permission. |
